Ongoing Event
Cultural thinker Kevin Kelly challenges the dichotomy of topos within utopia (u topos) and dystopia (dys topos). Geographical spaces, he argues, are spaces in formation – pro topos. Protopia represents a space that is mapped through the act of mapping itself. In line with Yuval Noah Harari’s ideas in Nexus, information is viewed as in-formation: it is not about truth but about the ongoing re-construction of reality. Information shapes reality because of its intrinsic connection to networks. It serves as the raw material that forms networks, which, in turn, weave the threads of history.
In his solo exhibition Souls of Protopia, Sandy Tisa presents maps that resonate with Simonetta Moro’s concept: as souvenirs from the mythical worlds that populate the human imagination, as deeply personal documentation, and as relational realities that are inherently intersubjective. By mapping his inner and mental world, Sandy strives to avoid the pseudo-factuality that absolutizes the fragility of artificial realities. Sandy’s works are chronicles of a protopia he builds through his persistence and experiential life-quest.
