Stefany Zefanya
Having swept the illustration & fine art scene in Jakarta with her iconic red-headed character and fresh artwork titles, Stefany’s artworks has been recognized domestically & internationally as well, having exhibited in Bali, Jogja, Shibuya, Chelsea, New Jersey, Shenzen, Singapore, and the latest in Bangkok. More than just her trademark caricature, she also has showcased her versatility in eastern & western-influenced cartoon & deco figures, clay figures, both digital & watercolor representative portraits interpretations, surrealism and anthropomorphic objects. Very fittingly, even taught a masterclass of her own in the process of brainstorming to execution.
Her artworks tells the story of experiences in everyday life through visual metaphors. Tackling both the duality of ups and downs in life, her works delves through the joy, contentment, emptiness, fulfillment, celebration of life, unconditional love, harsh self-criticism, and hope that keeps one going. To Stefany, her works carry the hope of touching the lives of others. A constant wish that marks the ongoing legacy of her life.

Humans are flexible creatures, similar to cats. Humans are adaptable in the same way that cats can fit into containers and small gaps. Humans are omnipresent because of their adaptability and flexibility, just like cats. However, there are cells within the human body that motivate people to do the impossible. From the perspective of social sciences, human growth is influenced by the environment, whereas in biological sciences, exposure to microorganisms develops alongside a person from birth. This environmental exposure is derived from where a person lives and how they conduct their daily life, including their lifestyle, diet, exercise, and interactions with others. This series of works is a celebration of how the microbiome, which is a biological essence that plays a crucial role in regulating bodily functions, also has dependencies in social and cultural realms. Generally, we can see that the mental state, mood, and body of a person with no personal experiences are vastly different from someone with a thousand experiences. The microbiome is a cell that develops our thinking intuition by recording all environmental experiences in a microorganic manner within it. It expertly manipulates the brain to create decisions based on everyday experiences that we either ignore or change in milliseconds.

Echoing the proverb that translates to "Germs across the ocean are palpable, elephant on the eyelid isn't", only instead of hypocritical judgement it's others’ presence. Centered on Eleven as the main figure, the piece paints companionship, of someone or something that can easily slip out of sight when the metaphorical grass on the other side seems greener, or on wishful thinking of something else distant. Stefany's piece questions who, what & how the viewer's own "I'm With U"'s are.
